This weekend is Lumiere London, a light festival where dozens of areas of the city have been lit up with sculptures and installations.

The first installation we spotted was at Trafalgar Square which had been filled with hundreds of light bulbs which would light up in various patterns.

    4. Edit

There was a pink neon ladder leaning against the spire of St Martin-in-the-Fields.

  2. Checkin at W London - Leicester Square
    1. Edit

TimeOut had teamed up with various bars around the city to create a cocktail trail to go along with the lights, so we stopped off at the W Hotel for our first drink.

I wondered if they change their welcome mat depending upon what time of day it is.

The hotel was very swanky with a circular bar and neon Union Jack in the window.

The cocktail was named London Lights with vodka, lychee, lemon, bubbles and edible glitter.

I loved their Normal Gets You Nowhere neon.

Outside the hotel, Leicester Square had been transformed into a light-up forrest with squirrels, foxes and other woodland criters.

  4. Checkin at Hipchips
    1. Edit

We went for dinner at Hipchips for a four course meal of crisps.

    2. Edit

Hipchips freshly cut and bake the chips in sweet and savoury flavours, which you munch with dips in all kinds of wonderful flavours.

    3. Edit

We ordered some savoury chips with the smokey cheese fondue and beetroot lemongrass marmalade dip. For dessert, we tried sweet chips with campfire s'mores and peanut butter and praline dip.

They were delicious and I was surprised by how filling a meal of crisps could be.

  5. Checkin at Maitre Choux
    1. Edit

For dessert, we headed to Maitre Choux next door for eclairs.

    2. Edit

Maitre Choux have to make the prettiest eclairs in the world, and their bakery is just as pretty as their packaging.

    3. Edit

We tried the Persian pistachio and a Turkish orange eclair to take home.
