  1. Checkin at BobCat Alpacas
    1. Edit

The outskirts of Edinburgh might not be the typical place that you'd expect to see alpacas, so it was a total surprise when we found out about BobCat Alpacas in the Pentland Hills.

Filled with fluffy alpacas waiting to be cuddled, you can meet them during a quick farm visit or them for an hour long walk around the hills.

Bob became an alpaca breeder by accident when he was planning to buy one alpaca to protect his heard and ended up with fifteen. Alpacas are great guard animals and will chase predators away from sheep and chicken.

Today, the farm is filled only with alpacas and he lovingly pointed out each one by name to us, telling us about their particular quirks. I even spotted him stealing a couple of kisses when he thought we weren't looking.

    6. Edit

Bob's wife tells him that he doesn't need to spend so much time at the farm because alpacas are pretty self sufficient, but he likes to hang out with them enough so that he can tell when one of them is acting out of character, as they tend to hide if they're sick.

    7. Edit

There was a baby llama who had been a late birth and born in September. She was so tiny and cute.

Once you've taken your alpaca for a walk, you can buy a ball of wool made from it's fluffy coat to take home and knit yourself a souvenir with.
