  1. Checkin at Ignition Festival of Motoring
    1. Edit

Because Tom loves watching cars go round and round, I applied for passes for Ignition Festival in Glasgow this weekend.

    2. Edit

The festival was at the SECC and they'd closed off the surrounding streets to make a race track.

    3. Edit

The Stig was there (or was he?) and showing off by performining donuts around the track.

Mark Webber was also there driving around in his Porsche.

    6. Edit

The Red Bull team were there and Tom was excited to get to see the Formula One cars up close and have a look at their engines.

As we needed to be in Glasgow for the weekend, we decided to book a night in a hotel and Tom found an awesome offer on the Malmaison which included dinner and cocktails.

  2. Checkin at The Malmaison Hotel
    1. Edit

Based in a former church on George Street in Glasgow, it's hard to miss the Malmaison with its striking art-deco entrance.

Inside, the hotel is dark and cosy with scented candles and little nooks to curl up in. I loved the artwork on the wrought iron staircase leading up to the rooms.

    4. Edit

The rooms are equally as cosy with velvet lined headboards and fluffy cushions gracing the bed and chairs.

I loved the Glasgow street map wallpaper and little details, like the sweets and apples left for us and scrummy toiletries with names like "the best shampoo you will ever steal".

  3. Checkin at The Honours by Martin Wishart
    1. Edit

We didn't even have to leave the hotel for dinner, as Martin Wishart has his own restaurant, The Honours in the Malmaison's basement.

    2. Edit

Curiosity got the better of us and we could resist ordering some gin fizz oysters. The citrusy gin worked really well with the saltiness of the oysters and it was a perfectly refreshing kick to the start for the meal.

    3. Edit

I ordered risotto which was spiced with saffron and Tom had sea bass in a delicious creamy broth.

For dessert, I tucked into creme brulee while Tom had a chocolate pudding.

    6. Edit

We ended our evening with cocktails in hotel bar, decorated in a laid-back hipster style with neon lights and trendy art.
