It's not every day that you get to see The Flying Scotsman, but today we were lucky enough to see it twice, while the train was making it's way across Scotland to celebrate completing it's 10-year long renovation.

We'd just got back from a trip to Hobbycraft (where I spend most Sundays) and Tom found out that it was going to be passing under a bridge we were crossing, so we parked up the Fig, ran out with our cameras and managed to snap a few shots just in time.

It may have seemed pretty simple seeing the train, but Scot Rail were keeping it's location top secret, so Tom worked out the service number for the train, checked it against the live signal timings and then consulted Google Maps on where we'd cross paths. We're now official members of geek club!

Feeling pretty proud of ourselves, we rewarded our geekiness with a drink at the Blackford Hotel while enjoying the sunshine and the view.

And then, just when we thought it was safe to retire our anoraks for the day, Tom found out what time it would be crossing the Forth Bridge and we couldn't resist the chance to see two of Scotland's iconic sites at the same time.

Starsky & Hutch style, Tom parked the Fig up right under the bridge, and we joined the crowd with our cameras in hand. I was stood next to some bikers, who were comparing the speed of the train to their bikes.

Just like magic, The Flying Scotsman appeared on the bridge just in time for sunset and we stood in the crowd, snapping away as it mades it's way across the Forth.

I tried to explain to Mum what trending on Twitter meant but she didn't really get it until the next day, when she said that one of her work friends had spotted my photo after it was retweeted by Sarah Brown, Gordon Brown's wife.
