My absolutely favourite dessert is creme brûlée but I've never been brave enough to try making it at home before.

  2. Edit

Armed with the blowtorch I'd bought especially for the occasion over 10 years ago, I set to work, making a makeshift baine marie out of a baking tray and attempting to brulee the creme to perfection.

Personally, I loved it and thought it was possibly one of the best I'd ever eaten but Dad, a fellow brûlée lover and unannounced food critic for the day, thought I'd got a little carried away with the blowtorch and burnt his too much.

Maybe I had let my baking skills go to my head a bit because when I attempted to turn the leftover egg whites into peppermint meringues, the mixture turned runny and I had to salvage the meringue into an Eton Mess.

We were in the mood for having fish & chips at the shore in the evening, so we drove along to South Queensferry where, great timing, all the streets were closed off for a festival.

We picked up our fish & chips to go and headed the other way along the shore where we stumbled into Port Edgar Marina.

    4. Edit

It was really cool and felt like a cute little port town with little shops in sheds, a restaurant and lots of rusty boats.

  6. Edit

We ended up eating our dinner on a road near the airport where you could see the planes landing.
