  1. Checkin at Coffee Drive
    1. Edit

We set off on a road-trip to Newcastle today and to our excitement, discovered a drive-through coffee shop on the way out of Edinburgh.

Even better, they had soy milk so I was able to get a salted caramel latte.

It always surprises us how fast the drive to Newcastle is and we even decided to take the long picturesque route which was filled with adorable animals to see in the fields.

  3. Checkin at Actual Byker Grove
    1. Edit

Eventually we arrived in Newcastle and after checking into our £20 a night hotel, it was time to explore and we couldn't resist heading to Byker Grove.

    2. Edit

The youth centre where the TV show was shot isn't actually in Byker and today, it's all boarded up and deserted. I imagined the ghost of Geoff walking the grounds, alongside PJ's eyesight.

Just like one of the little scallywag Geordies from the show, Tom snuck through a hole in the fence to see it up close and it was super creepy.

We then headed down into the city and stopped off at the Metro Centre to see the pirate ship and rollercoaster before finding out the were long gone.

The city looked really pretty as we passed through and I'd really like to come back again soon so we can have a proper explore.

  5. Checkin at The Cluny
    1. Edit

The main excuse for our trip down was to see The Xcerts who were playing a gig for Fender. Tom had nabbed free tickets to the gig and after having their Shaking In The Water song stuck in our heads for weeks, felt the only way to get it out was to see them live.

    2. Edit

The gig was at a nice little pub called The Cluny which had yummy vegan food on the menu, strawberry beer and free pinball - thanks to the forgetful person who had left 3 credits after their turn.

    3. Edit

We finished up our sweet potato wedges and dirty fries just in time to see The Xcerts come on stage. They were pretty good and very Scottish.
