  1. Edit

Ben, Dave & Mel have come up from London to visit us for a few days. They were hoping to catch the end of the festival but had come a little late, so we'd planned to make up for what they were lacking in comedy with amazing food and cakes.

  2. Checkin at Cafe Milk
    1. Edit

We started off with lunch at Cafe Milk, where the sandwiches, cakes and drink coolers went down a treat before heading back to our place to drop off their bags.

  3. Checkin at Lovecrumbs
    1. Edit

Though Mel was sure she didn't want anymore cake, nobody could resist the temptation of Lovecrumbs where we ordered a carrot cake, smoked salt & rye brownie, caramel brownie and chocolate rosemary tart and rotated them around the table.

  4. Checkin at Greyfriars Kirkyard
    1. Edit

It was then time to head in to the centre to give Ben a tour of the sights. It was his first time in the city and we got a little worried that everything notable to point out was either the site of a murder, hanging or Harry Potter.

    2. Edit

We headed in to Greyfriar's Kirk to give Ben a better view of George Heriot's School, which had inspired Hogwarts, and we arrived just in time to see a marching band performing in the grounds.

    4. Edit

Though it can get a bit familar showing people around a city you've lived in for so long, I hadn't been in Greyfriars Kirk in years and forgot how gruesome some of the gravestones were.

  5. Checkin at National Museums Scotland
    1. Edit

We then headed to the roof of the National Museum of Scotland to give everyone an amazing view over the city, which lasted for all of 10 seconds before a heavy rain storm blew back inside.

    2. Edit

We stopped off to see Dolly The Sheep, a Lego model of the Forth Road Bridge and I even managed to squish another penny for my collection.

  6. Checkin at Dragonfly
    1. Edit

Hoping to escape the rain, we headed to Dragonfly for cocktails.

  7. Checkin at Bennets Bar
    1. Edit

Continuing our mini bar crawl, we made our way up the street to Bennets Bar where we were lucky enough to get the secret booth.

    2. Edit

Ben & Dave ordered a whisky tasting which they sipped while Tom tried to teach them how to do the various Scottish accents. I like to think that anyone overhearing our conversation was trying to work out how many people could possibly fit in the our tiny secret booth.

  8. Edit

Unable to get seats at Tuk Tuk, someone had the idea to order deep fried pizzas, for a traditional Scottish experience, which might not have been what Mel had in mind when she'd requested "something healthy" for dinner earlier.

  9. Edit

Dave drew a helpful chart to explain our decision making.

  10. Edit

Ben, being the best ever, had brought a huge bag filled with cupcakes, brownies and whoopies pies from Hummingbird (my favourite bakery in London) up with him. We'll have enough treats to keep us going for weeks!
