  1. Checkin at Ōsaka Station
    1. Edit

Though we were sleeping in separate capsules, Tom and I managed to wake up at exactly the same time this morning and headed out to catch the Shinkansen to Nara. We treated ourselves to matcha lattes and sticky buns to eat on the train.

  2. Checkin at Fushimi Inari-taisha

Our next stop was the Fushimi-Inari Shrine which was feature in the Memoirs Of A Geisha movie.

    3. Edit

It's famous for the hundreds of red torii gates that line the stairs and trails up the mountain to the shrines, making it a really beautiful walk.

    4. Edit

We spotted an amazing looking restaurant near the top of the mountain, so we stopped off for lunch.

We ordered Inari sushi which comes from the area and is rice wrapped in tofu. They were delicious and the view from our table was beautiful.

  6. Checkin at Tazuru Ryokan
    1. Edit

We made our way back down the mountain and caught the train to Kyoto where we were staying in another ryokan. This one was a little more contemporary than the one in Nagano but it had a beautiful view over the city.

I had some green tea in our room, while Tom tucked in to the ramen he made yesterday and it was delicious.

We watched the sun set over the city before heading out in to Gion with the hopes of spotting Geisha.

  7. Checkin at Gion
    1. Edit

From what I'd read online, it seemed unlikely that we'd see them and Tuesdays are the quiet day in Japan so the streets were nearly deserted.

As soon as we approached the main street of Gion, we spotted two Geisha walking our way. It didn't seem real as they passed us by and they were even more beautiful in real life.
