Tom planned a secret mystery trip away for Valentine's day and I had no idea where we were going when we woke up at 5am to catch a train to Glasgow this morning.

  2. Checkin at Stranraer Ferry Port
    1. Edit

From Glasgow, we caught a second train to Ayr and then took a coach along the coast to Stranraer, where I realised we were catching the ferry to Ireland.

The ferry was surprisingly pleasant and only cost £29 including the trains and coach we'd taken to get there which was an amazing bargain.

A couple of hours later, we arrived in Belfast. This was my first trip to Northern Ireland, so I was excited to explore and see how it compared to Scotland.

We headed in to the city and took the lift to the top of Victoria Square Shopping Centre where there's a giant dome with 360 degree views over the city.

We had a slice of red velvet cake and cocktails which was the perfect way to relax after the long trip.

Feeling refreshed we made our way along the river towards the Titanic Quarter.

  12. Checkin at Titanic Belfast
    1. Edit

The Titanic memorial opened last year and the building is supposed to look a bit like an iceberg, a ship and a star in honour of the White Star Line.

    2. Edit

We were a little too late to look around the museum but they let us sneak in to get a Titanic squished penny.

Though the original docks have been filled in, the outline of where the Titanic sat is traced along the ground. We pretended to stroll along the deck while Tom hogged a lifeboat to himself.

I couldn't resist buying my own tacky Heart Of The Ocean necklace. Tourists can even have their photo put inside it as a souvenir.

  13. Checkin at Malmaison Hotel
    1. Edit

It was then time to check in to our hotel and Tom had booked us a night at the fancy Malmaison hotel.

There were heart cookies and lovely toilitries waiting for us in our room.

After a mini disco nap, we headed out in to the city for the night.

  15. Checkin at Crown Liquor Saloon Belfast
    1. Edit

We stopped off at an amazing pub called The Crown for a drink.

    2. Edit

The decor was so ornament and each table was inside it's own little booth. It was weird being able to lock yourself off from the rest of the pub.

We went for dinner at Made In Belfast, a quirky looking restaurant that sources all of it's ingredients locally.

I had goats cheese fritters with hazelnuts and Tom had a gigantic falafel wrap. They both tasted great and we were so stuffed and ready for bed by the end of the meal.

  17. Checkin at Malmaison Hotel

We headed back to the hotel for some after dinner cocktails in the bar. I had the honey bee which was delicious!
