      One of my Christmas presents from Tom was a trip to Amsterdam and we set off on our trip this morning. Canals, cheese and pancakes are some of my favourite things so it's a city I've always wanted to visit.

      We were booked into the Room Mate Aitana which is a brand new building on an artificial island.

      The hotel was lovely, our bed was super comfy and the free toilitries smelled delicious.

      We were on the 10th floor and there was an amazing view from our window. It reminded me of one of the high up Tokyo hotels.

    After settling in, we headed out in to the city to explore. I couldn't believe how many cyclists there were and it was a little scary working out where the pavement started and what was a cycle path.

    Aside from the scary cyclists everywhere, it was a really pretty city to explore with cute architecure and canals everywhere.

      We stopped off at a cafe / furniture store called Six & Sons for lunch and it was super hipster.

      Our mackerel sandwich was super tasty and the waitress was so cute when she tried to explain what the Dutch word for horseradish meant.

      The shops seemed to close quite early but we kept ourselves entertained by window shopping.

      When it got too cold for exploring, we snuggled up with wine and cheese in Café Thijssen.

      One of my favourite traditions when travelling is to go to the supermarket and buy lots of snacks with weird names and then have a bed picnic back at the hotel while watching foreign TV.
