  1. Checkin at Four Corners Monument
    1. Edit

After waking up in our hotel casino this morning, it was time to hit the road and head to the Four Corners Monument.

    2. Edit

The monument marks the point where four states - Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona meet. We amused ourselves by trying to stand in all four states at once.

  2. Edit

Afterwards we crossed the state line in to Arizona and it was amazing watching how the desert rocks changed from red to pink to white over the distance of just a few miles.

  4. Checkin at Pita Jungle in Flagstaff
    1. Edit

We stopped for lunch at Pita Jungle in Flagstaff where I had a super tasty tuna salad and peanut butter smoothie.

  5. Edit

We then drove along Route 66 on our way towards California and there was so much to see. I had my camera out of the window for the whole ride.

The route was so deserted that we actually saw tumbleweeds blowing across the road.

I was so excited that I had Tom stop the car so I could take a photo of one.

  9. Checkin at Seligman, Arizona
    1. Edit

We stopped off in Seligman, one of the coolest Route 66 ghost towns which was filled with retro shops, rusty classic cars and mannequins that looked like Elvis.

    1. Edit

We couldn't resist stopping off at the Roadkill Cafe to get a squished penny and to have a peek at the taxedermy.

We stopped off at a gas station to get some appropriate refreshments for the rest of the route.

  12. Edit

We made some adorable little friends in a nearby field.

Back on the motorway, it was time to head west to California for the night.

  15. Edit

Tom stopped at the last rest stop in Arizona so he could try and find me a tumbleweed to take home in the desert, even though there was a giant sign warning us about poisonous snakes and scorpions.

  16. Edit

We then made our way across the state line in to California and headed towards Yucca Valley where we were about to have our first hotel from hell experience.

    1. Edit

We'd planned to spend the night in an awesome theme room with a pink cadillac bed but shortly after checking in, we found bed bugs and had to make a speedy exit. Luckily we made it to a nearby Motel 6 with a full refund and we were thankful this was our first bad experience out of the hundred plus hotels we must have stayed in so far.
