  1. Edit

We woke up in Santa Fe this morning and, after a tasty breakfast at our motel, headed in to town for a look around. There's a rule in the city that none of the buildings can exceed two stories and they must be painted brown in the traditional style.

  2. Checkin at Oldest House
    1. Edit

We passed by the oldest house in America which was built in 1885 and across the road from the oldest church.

  3. Edit

Back on the road, we headed north to Colorado, passing by Los Alamos where the atomic bomb was invented.

  4. Edit

We got stuck behind someone who was literally moving house at one point.

  5. Edit

As we headed further in the the wilderness, more and more bullet holes began appearing in the road signs.

  6. Edit

We breathed a sigh of relief when we eventually crossed the state line in to Colorado. A little further down the road we saw dozens of cows being herded by two real-life cowboys.

  7. Checkin at Mesa Verde National Park
    1. Edit

Eventually we arrived at Mesa Verdes National Park, which is home to cliff dwellings from as early as the year 600.

    2. Edit

I spotted a chipmunk hiding in some of the rocks. It kept popping in and out and was so quick.

    3. Edit

We trekked down to the Spruce Tree House, watching our path for poison ivy and venomous creatures.

    4. Edit

It was amazing seeing the dwelling tucked under the cliffs and imagining how they must have scaled the cliffs to get to and from their homes.

  8. Edit

It was almost sunset by the time we left the park and the deer were out in the fields.

  9. Edit

We stopped to watch them for a while and they didn't mind that we were there. There was about a dozen of them fighting and playing in the field.

  10. Checkin at Main Street Brewery
    1. Edit

We stopped in the nearby town of Cortez for nachos and beer pretzels at the Main Street Brewery.

  11. Checkin at Ute Mountain Casino Hotel Resort
    1. Edit

That evening we were staying in the Ute Mountain Casino because it was the cheapest place in the area and the rooms were much nicer than the cheap motels we usually stay at.

    2. Edit

We were given $20 free credit to play with and ended up winning $12 to take away, making it the cheapest night stay yet. There was also free drinks, donuts and popcorn!
