We woke up in Dallas, Texas this morning, a city we didn't get to visit on our last trip.

  2. Checkin at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza
    1. Edit

We took a drive through downtown, passing by the building from where Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK.

  3. Edit

There was an amazing and gigantic sculpture of cowboys herding cattle featuring hundreds of bronze cows.

  4. Edit

I spotted a pretty dragon fly.

  5. Edit

Back on the road, we took a short drive to the nearby city of Fort Worth, famous for it's cowboys and rodeo.

  6. Checkin at Blue Sushi Sake Grill Fort Worth
    1. Edit

We stopped for lunch at Blue Sushi as we were just in time for happy hour. I tried a key lime martini and we tried a few new types of roll including the cowgirl.

  7. Checkin at Fort Worth Stockyards
    1. Edit

We took a walk through the Stockyards afterwards where there were lots of cowboys, bulls and tourists.

    2. Edit

There was a stall selling shave ice in flavours like tiger blood and wedding cake. We got a cup of bubblegum pink before getting back on the road.

  8. Checkin at Czech Stop
    1. Edit

Holly told us to stop off at the Czech Stop to try a freshly baked kolaches, a pasty treat that's popular with Texans.

    2. Edit

There was a gigantic queue in the bakery but we waited patiently before tucking in to a tasty pumpkin kolache.

  9. Checkin at Congress Bridge Bats
    1. Edit

A few hours later, we arrived in Austin where we met up with Holly, Lee and their friend, Vicky who was visiting from Bristol.

    2. Edit

We arrived just in time for sunset, so we headed to Congress Bridge to see the bats fly out for the evening.

    3. Edit

There were thousands of bats swarming in the air and we were so excited to finally get a chance to see them.

  10. Checkin at Bangers
    1. Edit

Afterwards we headed to Bangers for hipster hotdogs. It was warm enough to sit outside, which was lovely under the fairy lights though a pesky cockroach decided to charge at us a few times during the night until Holly showed it what for.

    2. Edit

Tom and I shared a veggie BLT hot dog and another with beet root and goats cheese. They were both soooooo good!

  11. Edit

We took a little walk around Austin afterwards, looking for one of the bike animals Holly had told us about.

  12. Edit

We were sad to wave goodbye to everyone at the end of the night but it was time to get back on the road and head east to New Mexico.
