• As a surprise for Mum's birthday, Dad had reserved us a table at Redwood, a California inspired restaurant she's been eyeing up on the drive to our house ever since it opened.

• The restaurant is in a converted house and has lots of California art over the walls.

• Everything in the menu sounded amazing but I went for a soy salad topped with crispy noodles which was delicious and reminded me of all the wonderful salads we'd had while in America.
