• Each of the train stations in Japan have kiosks which sell local delicacies, so we picked up a bento box filled with cured sushi, which is Kyoto's speciality as it's landlocked and harder to get fresh fish.
  • We caught a street car when we arrived in Hiroshima and then took a ferry across to Itsukushima Island.
  • Afterwards we treated ourselves to okonomiyaki at Okonomi-mura, a three story food arcade filled with restaurants where you can watch it being cooked in front of you.
  • It was amazing to watch the dish come together with eggs, cabbage, sprouts and noodles. You can add any ingredients you like so we had ours with prawns and squid.
  • Once it's ready to eat, it's swept across the hot griddle to your seat and you can tuck in. It was amazingly delicious and has left me craving more.
