• Jamie's Dad was working at the Helmsdale Highland Games which was only 30 minutes away, so we decided to pop along.
  • I hadn't been to a Highland Games since I was little but it was exactly what I expected with caber tossing, a mountain race and bagpipers everywhere.
  • Jamie's Dad runs a laser shooting game where you shoot plastic disks in the air with laser guns and he let us all have a go.
  • It was a lot harder than it looked but I was really happy with myself for managing to hit something once.
  • Sensing everyone was getting a little hangry, we decided to join a really long queue for woodfired pizzas.
  • The pizza was definitely worth the wait but we kind of wished we'd got two.
  • We then stopped off to watch the Highland Dancers. I loved seeing all the different colours of tartan.
  • Some of the dancers were dressed in cute sailor uniforms and did a nautical version of the dance, which looked like fun.
  • We felt sorry for the dancers who were trying to concentrate when this very loud marching band were performing in the background.
  • Helmsdale felt a little behind the times for women's rights when we noticed the first prize for the tug of war being half the amount for women as it was for men.
  • There was also an announcement to the men to keep a leash on their dogs, and their women, as the lifeguards made a fly by in their helicopter.
